Hospice, Palliative, and Home Care are combined at Machame Lutheran Hospital. A broad range of patients and clients receive support from this unified program with a big portion being those those living with HIV-AIDS. As treatment has become more and more available many of these clients have moved from hospice to palliative and ongoing care.
Machame serves as a hub in a country wide program administered through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania with support through USAID. Under this grant, village volunteers are trained and equipped to offer the needed care and support on as local a basis as is possible, with teams caring for mind, body, and spirit of the individuals.
